Mackenzie is an outdoor playground with many large and small
fresh-water lakes with fantastic hunting and fishing locations. Camping
areas accommodate every taste. Sites range from rustic recreational to the
comfortable full service Municipal RV Park. Beautiful Morfee Lake is only
minutes from downtown, walking or driving. Morfee Lake hosts swimming,
boating, water-skiing, or just enjoying the scenery while lounging on the sandy
beach.
Recreational facilities within the community can be found at the
Leisure Services Centre complete with competition-size swimming pool, sauna, hot
tub, weight room, library, curling rink, ice arena, and a
Snack Bar. Throughout the year, the Leisure Services Centre features a
child drop-off centre for those who want to use the facilities for up to one hour on a regular day-pass.
Mackenzie also boasts an arts centre, museum, and a bowling alley with
racquetball courts. Mackenzie Golf & Country Club offers a
challenging, yet picturesque, nine-hole golf course. Other popular summer
pastimes are baseball, soccer, biking, and hiking on the numerous back-country
trails.
Winter brings the opportunity for cross-country skiing on
groomed ski trails. Alpine skiing is nearby at Powder
King Mountain Resort, only a 45-minute drive from Mackenzie, with the best
powder skiing in British Columbia, if not, the world! Lift tickets are
affordable for every pocket book. Little Mac Ski Hill, which is right in
town, offers children and adults alike a chance to ski or toboggan and enjoy the
town's amenities. For cross-country skiers, there are first-rate groomed
trails seconds from downtown, in pristine wilderness surroundings. The
continuous snowfall over the winter ensures that daily fresh powder is readily
available, for not only the skiers; but also snowmobilers too! It is a
sledder's paradise with alpine powder climbs and our yearly snowmobile drag
races. |
